Back in 2002 I was doing custom composition for picture full-time. In that period I composed the song “Flight” for the sales video for the Beachcraft King Air airplane. That song went to be licensed as a special feature and as part of the CD Soundtrack for the film One Six Right.
This year is the 10th anniversary of that film and the director Brian J. Terwilliger contacted me a few months back letting me know he was releasing a special Blu-ray edition to celebrate the anniversary. He also asked had if he could include a second special feature with a new 2nd montage using “Flight” with some I different air-to-air shots…”. Of course I said YES :^)
I recently got my copy of the Blu-ray and here is a shot of the contents showing “Flight” and “Flight II”.
About the Song “Flight”
“Flight” is THE most listened to song I’ve ever composed. In addition to being heard on the DVD and CD soundtrack, the youtube video for the special feature flight has 105,000+ views and the original sales video which was posted on youtube has 62,000+ views.
I composed, performed and produced the song using virtual instruments. I hired a fabulous singer named Brooke Graves to sing on the piece. I sliced up a lot of her vocal tracks to create a library of phrases that I then edited into the piece blending her voice with synthetic vocals. As the piece evolves, I nudged the melodic elements back in the timing to create more emotional tension. It was super challenging to create – and so rewarding to see the song being used and appreciated in so many ways.
Here is a new upload by the director featuring the original “Flight” remastered. You’ll have to buy the Blu-ray to see “Flight II” :^) Let me assure you, it’s awesome!
About This Special Film
One Six Right considers local airports through the life, history and struggle of Southern California’s Van Nuys Airport. Through aerial sequences and stories told by pilots, air traffic controllers, historians and flight enthusiasts, including well-known faces such as Sydney Pollack, Lorenzo Lamas, Paul Moyer, Hal Fishman, Desiree Horton and many others. The film uncovers the history of the airport where Amelia Earhart broke a world speed record over its runways, and where Marilyn Monroe was discovered while working in its hangars; scenes from Casablanca were filmed on the grounds.
To commemorate the film’s 10th anniversary, “One Six Right” was digitally remastered in 1080p HD from the original High Definition footage. The Anniversary Edition Blu-ray includes all special features from the original DVD release, all content from “One Six Left” (The Companion DVD), plus 10-minutes of new footage — all in HD. A video comparing the difference in quality between the original DVD and the newly remastered Blu-ray is showcased on the film’s official website.
