Just heads up for synth fellow synth pop fans – Duran Duran has released their 14th studio album Paper Gods! The album’s various producers were Mr Hudson & Joshua Blair, Nile Rodgers, and Mark Ronson.
Here is a the official “lyric” video for the single “Pressure Off” produced by Nile Rogers
I agree with Rolling Stone’s assessment:
But what makes this music fun is its youthful sense of invention. Our Eighties-mad era would’ve been happy with a Rio redux, but these guys aren’t ready to settle for that.
I have to admit stadium bands like Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails influenced some of arrangements (mainly how I use breaks) on the beat-driven tracks on my alien invasion concept albums. It’s good to be Red Rocks ready right?
Speaking of Red Rocks, the band is out on tour [official tour page] and I’m excited to see them for the 4th time on the Rocks on September 20th woot!
The last time I saw them was in 2011 when they played the 1st Bank Center near Boulder (show report here). They just kicked ass! I love when you go to see an 80s band and they are at the top of their game. One highlight of the shows for me were their super cool stripped down electro min-set. Here is the electro version of “All She Wants Is“.
They even gave a nod to Kraftwerk and did “Showroom Dummies”
Enough of that, back to the new album. Check out this interview on CBS this morning about the release.

One last thought after seeing this pic. Damn I’m going to have to hit the gym!
Enjoy the rest of your synth pop Sunday!
