In the Spring, Google created a very cool interactive virtual tour web app of the legendary Abbey Road Studios. I somehow missed it – and in thinking some of you might have missed it too I thought I’d do a post on it.
Abbey Roads of course is the iconic studio where the artist like the Beatles and Pink Floyd recorded. Orchestral film scores such as Harry Potter and Star Wars were also recorded here. The virtual tour is REALLY well done and incorporates a “street view” interface for wandering around, and sound and video elements. There is a video game like map interface that lets you jump directly to different tops on the tour and also tracks what you’ve already seen supporting repeat visits. It’s nice to see a highly interactive flash-like site again.
Inside the studios, they even have discographies and lists of artists who recorded in each studio – and of course since this is Google, they link to the Google Play versions of these works so you can listen/buy.
In a related note, all my releases are available on Google Play here :^)
The tour does a nice job blending the feeling of being there along with a sense of history.
If you are interested in music or film in any way I highly recommend you give this tour a go https://insideabbeyroad.withgoogle.com/en/welcome.
