I received my Ableton Move yesterday 🎉. One of the first things I set out to figure out was how to manage Sets and backup and restore data.
For those new to Ableton, “Sets” store all the data related to a project, including sequencer clip data, presets used, and samples incorporated into the Set.
Currently, while the Move Manager allows you to download a Set (.ablbundle) and upload samples, there is currently no option to upload a Set back into the Move. I know from interviews form the product team, they are actively working on strategies for moving presets and drum racks to Move. Hopefully they’ll also add Sets to the list.
I just uploaded a video that documents a workaround I found using Ableton Cloud and the iOS Note app which DOES allow you to backup and restore Sets.
It begins with a basic introduction to Set management on the Ableton Move, followed by an overview of how sync works between Move and Note.
I then walk through how to backup and restore Sets.
Full Disclosure: I occasionally do freelance consulting and sound design work with Ableton Berlin’s sound team. I have some MPE Drift, Wavetable, and Sampler presets in the Core of Live 10, 11, 12, and Push 3 Standalone. I don’t directly benefit from sales of Ableton’s products.
Pardon the green screen artifacts when pads turn green – haha.
I hope you find this helpful. If you do, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel and ring the bell. More content like this coming.
Cheers,
Mark Mosher
