Check out a Free Online Class with Professor Dolby!… For the past five years I’ve been teaching an undergraduate degree course in Music Composition for Film and Games at Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, USA. Many people have asked me if there’s a way to audit, or sit in on my classes. Well up until now the answer was No. But as of this week all our classes have migrated online. So if you’re curious, here’s an opportunity to experience one of my classes!

Here is this week’s freshman class is Scoring for Comedy, Part 1.
This is the first in a two-part tutorial in music scoring for comedy by Prof. Thomas Dolby, Director of New Media at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, USA. It includes a brief history of comedy film music, and tips for aspiring film/TV/game composers.
In addition to recording the groundbreaking MTV hit “She Blinded Me With Science”, Thomas has written music for directors such as George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, Ken Russell, Barry Levinson and J.J.Abrams; and created comedy movie songs for Robin Williams and Tim Curry.
This would normally be taught as a private class, but due to COVID-19 it is now accessible online.
